Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the requirements for using Rich Chart Live?
A: Rich Chart Live only requires a web browser and an Internet connection. It will work reasonably well with a 56Kbps modem and faster connections will make the experience even smoother. Give it a try to see how well it works.
Q: How can I share a Rich Chart with a friend or co-worker for collaboration?
A: There is a very simple method to share a Rich Chart with someone: Save a chart project by the Drag & Drop method and send the resulting file or link to whom you want to share the project with. The other person will be able to open the project and make changes.
Q: Which formats can data values have?
A: Data values entered or imported into the Data pane
should use the dot (.) as decimal separator. Other than this they can include any mix of currency signs, commas or other text. For example the following values are all recognized as 1000:
- 1000
-
$1000,
-
$1,000
-
USD $1,000.0
- USD $1,000.00 (NET Price)
Q: Will colors for chart values be changed when a new Template is applied?
A: Applying a new Template will change everything in the chart except the data values and the series colors, which will be respected.
Q: What chart types are available?
A: The following chart types are available in the Series Style pane (each chart type includes many chart styles):
- Column
- Bar
- Line
- Side Line
- Area
- Side Area
- Pie
- Doughnut
Q: Is it possible to have different chart types (ex: lines +column + area) in the same chart?
A: The Rich Chart Live interface doesn't allow for mixed charts - please see Rich Chart Builder, which includes this capability: Rich Chart Builder.
Q: What does the Sub-Type setting mean?
A: The Sub-Type changes how multiple series are displayed for chart types other than Pie and Doughnut. This setting can have one of the following values:
- Clustered: Compares values side-by-side across series.
- Stacked: Compares the contribution of each series value to a total across series.
- Stacked 100%: Compares the percentage that each value contributes to a total across series.
Q: How can the color for an individual series be set?
A: Selecting a Color Palette in the Series Style Pane will set the colors to all the series at once; to set a color for an individual series, go to the Data pane, click in Manage Series, select the series and then click in the color picker.
If you're using a Pie or Doughnut chart, colors are associated with rows - on this case edit through the Manage Rows button.
Q: Can I change the font for chart labels?
A: Unfortunately this is not currently possible in Rich Chart Live. This feature is however available in Rich Chart Builder, the desktop version of the Rich Chart Live service, which includes a few more advanced capabilities. For more details about Rich Chart Builder, please see here.
Q: Can I generate charts to image or PDF formats?
A: Generating to other formats (besides Flash and PowerPoint) is not currently possible in Rich Chart Live. Output to Image and PDF is available in Rich Chart Builder, the desktop version of the Rich Chart Live service, which includes more advanced capabilities. For more details about Rich Chart Builder, click here.
Q: Clicked Publish to Flash/PowerPoint in the Publish pane but the file won't download in Internet Explorer?
A: After selecting Publish to Flash or PowerPoint, make sure to select "Download File..." in the Internet Explorer Information bar, which will appear at the top of the Rich Chart Live interface. After selecting "Download File..." once, further downloads will not cause Internet Explorer to bother you again.
Q: What does "AutoPlay Chart Animation" mean, in the Publish pane?
A: If this setting is unchecked, PowerPoint chart animations will stop at the beginning and wait for a click to play. If this setting is checked, animations will play immediately, which might cause problems in multi-slide presentations as PowerPoint will try to play all animations at once, even those not visible.
Q: How do Monthly Subscriptions work?
A: Monthly Subscriptions are a convenient way to access the full Rich Chart Live service without worrying about time-based passes. They are auto-renewable and billed on a monthly basis until terminated by the customer. A subscription can terminated in share-it's (our ecommerce provider) control panel, which is accessible during the subscription period. More information is available at share-it's Customer Care Center.
Q: If Rich Chart Live is free why do you offer a paid version?
A: The Free Edition does everything the purchased service does except that it places a small logo on the bottom-right corner of each generated chart. This logo will let other users know that they also can generate their Rich Charts for free.
The paid version is available for our customers that require charts without the placement of this small logo.
