Saving Your Work

Saving your work is of course important as you may want return to it at a later time to finish it or improve it.

Saving a Project

A project includes every settings used to encode a video. A project file includes:

  • Video Settings
  • Audio Settings
  • Visual Effects
  • The used Player and its properties
  • Subtitles
  • Which source video was used

To save a Project follow these steps:

  1. Select Save Project from the File menu
  2. Choose a location and enter a filename. Press Save when done

Saving the Encoded Video

If you're satisfied with the encoded Flash video, it can be saved to your disk:

  1. Select Save Encoded Video... from the File menu or press the Publish button located just below the timeline
  2. Choose a location and enter a filename. Press Save when done

Your video is now saved along with several other files - assuming you typed name for the filename:

  • The encoded FLV video (name.flv)
  • An HTML page that can be used as a starting point if you want to publish the video to the Internet (name.html)
  • A thumbnail JPEG image displayed by the Player in certain start modes before the video begins streaming (name.flv.jpg)
  • A Flash file containing the Player (name.swf)
  • A Flash file used by the Player which acts as a Skin (skin#.swf)

All these video files should be uploaded to your web site.

Saving the Encoded Video to PowerPoint

Video can be inserted into a MS PowerPoint presentation:

  1. Select Save Video to PowerPoint... from the File menu or press the Publish button located just below the timeline
  2. Choose a location and enter a filename. Press Save when done

Your video is now inserted into a PowerPoint presentation. However, the video is not fully embeded into the presentation and you should be careful to not delete other generated files - assuming you typed name for the filename, these are the other files you should be careful not to delete:

  • The encoded FLV video (name.flv)
  • The PowerPoint presentation file (name.ppt)
  • A thumbnail JPEG image displayed by the Player in certain start modes before the video begins streaming (name.flv.jpg)
  • A Flash file containing the Player (name.swf)
  • A Flash file used by the Player which acts as a Skin (skin#.swf)

Uploading the Encoded Video

If you're satisfied with the encoded Flash video, it can be immediately uploaded to your website:

  1. Select Upload Encoded Video... from the File menu or press the Publish button located just below the timeline
  2. Choose a server name, user name and password for your website. Press OK when done

Your video will now be uploaded to your website. The following files will also be uploaded with your video - assuming you typed name for the filename:

  • The encoded FLV video (name.flv)
  • An HTML page that can be used as a starting point if you want to publish the video to the Internet (name.html)
  • A thumbnail JPEG image displayed by the Player in certain start modes before the video begins streaming (name.flv.jpg)
  • A Flash file containing the Player (name.swf)
  • A Flash file used by the Player which acts as a Skin (skin#.swf)

You should access http://yoursite.com/name.html to watch your video.
